He joined the Socialist Party in 2006.</p><p>In 2016, he left the Socialist Party to join Emmanuel Macron's newly formed party, En Marche, which later became La République En Marche (LREM). Since then, he has risen through the political ranks. At the age of 29, he was appointed Secretary of State in the education ministry.</p><p>He has also held various high-profile political positions, including Government Spokesperson, Education Minister, etc. He has also led a campaign against bullying.</p><h5>Why was Gabriel Attal appointed as Prime Minister?</h5><p>Gabriel Attal is Emmanuel Macron's close ally. He served as the government's spokesperson during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recent opinion polls have ranked him as one of the country's most popular politicians. So, the appointment comes at a time when Macron has faced challenges in managing the parliament after losing his absolute majority in 2022.</p><p>He hopes that with Attal’s appointment, things will get better. Attal has also been described as a rising star in French politics. So, Macron is counting on him to re-energise his government.</p>
