<h5>Which state has come up with this new rule?</h5><p>Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government announced a new rule saying that women are not allowed to attend coaching classes after 8 pm. This rule is a part of the state’s new Safe City Project and has been protested by many. The state government says the rule has been made to protect girls.</p><p>Apparently, boys can attend coaching classes even after 8 pm. Action will be taken against coaching centres if they break this rule. Many girls work various jobs to look after their families and then attend evening classes to prepare for government job exams, upskilling, higher education exams, etc.</p><p>Many girls also look after their siblings during the day when their parents are out working. After their parents return from work, they attend evening classes. This new rule is unfair to them and will restrict their chances of achieving their dreams.</p><p>Many might not have the financial condition to afford the gadgets required to attend online classes. Some people also believe that rules should be set to keep everyone safe while not treating males and females differently.</p><p>Activists believe that well-lit streets and police patrols, rather than such restrictions, would make cities safer for girls. They should be provided with affordable late-night bus or auto services. The police should patrol the high-crime areas of a city to ensure women's safety. Women’s helpline numbers can also be created for their safety.</p><p>Crimes against women can happen at any time of the day. It’s the responsibility of the government to ensure they are protected and not make rules that will restrict their ambitions in the name of protection. After all, a “safe city” should mean a girl feels safe all the time.</p><h5>What is the Safe City Project?</h5><p>UP’s Safe City Project aims to improve the protection of women, children, and senior citizens of the state. Under this initiative, many CCTV cameras will be installed at the entrances and exits of 17 municipal corporations and government and non-government schools, colleges, etc., in Gautam Buddha Nagar.</p><p>Under this project, recommendations have been given to private coaching institutes regarding girl safety, maintaining proper security measures, etc. The guidelines also say coaching centres should take the responsibility of ensuring the safety of girls from the time they arrive at the coaching institutes until they leave.</p><p>Furthermore, private coaching institutes in these cities are being watched to prevent troublemakers from gathering and causing any trouble in front of the institutes.
