<h5><strong>When did Greece legalise same-sex marriage?</strong></h5><p>Greece has recently become the first Christian Orthodox-majority country to legalise <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.newsahoot.com/articles/children-of-samesex-parents-well-adjusted-study-finds">same-sex marriage</a>. The country’s parliament approved a bill allowing same-sex marriage. This decision has made the LGBTQ supporters very happy. They gathered and celebrated on the streets of Athens (Greece’s capital city).</p><p>The new law also gives the country’s same-sex couples the right to adopt children. However, the new law will not allow surrogate pregnancies for the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.newsahoot.com/articles/what-does-lgbtq-stand-for">LGBTQ</a> community. Its supporters organised a protest march in Athens. The Orthodox Church believes that homosexuality is a sin. Many others displayed banners and did various other activities to show their protest against the new rule.</p><p>Nonetheless, the country's government chose to do what was right and grant the LGBTQ community the rights it deserved. Greece has become one of the many countries in the European Union (EU) to legalise same-sex marriage.</p><h5><strong>Is same-sex marriage allowed in India?</strong></h5><p>On 17th October 2023, the Supreme Court of India ruled against legalising same-sex marriage in the country. The LGBTQ community and its supporters were disappointed by this decision. However, the Supreme Court made several verdicts in their favour.
