Animals also suffer from heat!
In the summer, it gets very hot affecting humans and various birds, mammals, reptiles, etc.
The heat can make animals sick, and getting water becomes difficult for them as lakes and ponds dry up.
This year, Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) has created special plans to protect its animals from the heat.
Wow! What are they doing?

NZP is using air coolers, sprinklers, running water pools, ice baths, etc., and giving the animals lots of drinking water to help them during the summer.
Their enclosures are covered with bamboo sheds to give them shade. The animals are also getting watermelon, sugarcane, and cucumber to eat along with their regular food to keep them hydrated.
NZP is also ensuring visitor comfort by providing them with 14 water stations in the park.
How to help animals during the summer?
You can help street animals by leaving food and water out for them. Keep pets indoors during the hottest part of the day and give them enough drinking water so they don’t fall sick.
You can also keep a water bowl on your balcony railing for the birds. You can also encourage your friends, family, and neighbours to provide drinking water for stray animals.
Stray animals like to sleep under the shade of cars during the summers, so ask your parents to check there’s no animal underneath before they start their vehicle.
Also, you must remember - never approach a stray animal without an adult.
