<h5>What is a BSL-3 laboratory?</h5><p>A BSL-3 (Biosafety Level 3) laboratory is a specialised laboratory built for handling and studying infectious matter like Coronavirus that can cause serious or fatal diseases in humans. Such facilities are also used to research infectious substances or poisons that can spread through the air and cause life-threatening diseases.</p><p>BSL-3 labs are designed to prevent the escape of infectious pathogens. They are equipped with various safety measures to reduce the danger of infection. Such facilities can be easily disinfected. Other safety measures include sealed windows, floors, walls, and proper ventilation.</p><p>The lab workers are also provided with personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce the danger of infection. These laboratories follow strict guidelines to guarantee that the facilities and people are properly trained and equipped to deal with infectious substances in a safe manner.</p><p>Recently, India's first mobile BSL-3 laboratory was on display during the second G20 Health Working Group Meeting. Photo by ICMR.</figcaption></figure><p>The mobile BSL-3 laboratory is named RAMBAAN (Rapid Action Mobile BSL3+ Advanced Augmented Network). It is a completely made-in-India mobile clinic. It can be used to reach rural areas for testing for infectious substances. This mobile lab is also equipped with GPS.</p><p>The mobile BSL-3 laboratory is built inside a bus. This bus has the equipment to ensure proper chemical waste disposal. This reduces the chance of infection.</p><p>The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has praised this mobile BSL-3 laboratory and highlighted India’s unique initiatives to deliver healthcare in remote places with tough weather patterns. The mobile clinics serve as a model for countries seeking to overcome transportation issues to deliver healthcare.</p><p>The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) developed and built the mobile lab. It is South Asia’s first mobile BSL-3 laboratory. The equipment has been made in India. It weighs 1.8 kg and looks like a camera. Regular portable X-ray machines weigh 20 to 70 kg. So, this newly developed X-ray machine can be used much more easily.</p><p>Several mobile applications, including a fever tracker, a malaria dashboard for real-time surveillance, and an app for hypertension and diabetes treatment, were also on show at the ICMR stall.</p><h5>What is the G20 Health Working Group Meeting about?</h5><p>The G20 Health Working Group Meeting is an event for health experts from the G20 countries to discuss various global health challenges. The latest meeting in Goa focused on increasing cooperation to improve access to and availability of safe, effective, and high-quality medical treatments.</p><p>The discussions also focused on issues such as developing a manufacturing network for vaccines and preventing any future health emergencies.</p>
