A Calculated Response to Terrorism
On May 7, 2025, India took a special military action called Operation Sindoor. This action happened after a terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In that attack, 26 innocent people lost their lives.
The targets of Operation Sindoor were nine locations connected to terrorist groups. These locations were found in mainland Pakistan and in the region known as Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK).
The goal was to stop further attacks and send a clear message that terrorism would not be tolerated.
How the Operation Was Carried Out
The operation started at 1:05 AM on May 7. The Indian Air Force used modern tools to attack places like training camps and storage buildings.
India used surveillance tools (like cameras and satellites) to see if the operation was successful.
Indian officials said that around 70 terrorists, including some leaders, were killed. These people were part of groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
These groups have attacked India before. The Indian government calls them terrorist organisations. No Indian soldiers were hurt during the operation.
Historical and Political Context
India and Pakistan have had a difficult relationship, especially over Kashmir. Many attacks in India were done by groups from Pakistan.
Some of the most serious incidents include the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the 2016 Uri attack and the 2019 Pulwama bombing. These events made trust between the two countries very weak.
Operation Sindoor is part of India’s work to keep people safe and to fight terrorism. The operation also shows that India wants to defend itself but does not want to hurt ordinary people.
