A Night of Fashion and Stories
On May 5th, 2025, there was a grand fashion event known as the Met Gala that took place in New York City. It was organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. is event happens every year and is known for beautiful and creative clothes. But it’s not just about looking good, it’s also about the culture, history, and identity of people around the world.
How the Met Gala started
The Met Gala began in 1948 as a small dinner to raise funds for the museum's Costume Institute. It later became a large event with celebrities from all over the world. Every year, there is a theme that tells guests how to dress. These themes often share stories about art, fashion, and people’s traditions.
The theme for this year was "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." It celebrated how Black people have used fashion, especially nice suits, to articulate pride, power, and identity. The clothes at the event were colourful, elegant, and full of meaning.
Celebrating Global Culture Through Fashion
The 2025 Met Gala was more than just a fashion show. It was a way for people to show clothes and styles from different cultures around the world.
Superstar Zendaya wore a special white Louis Vuitton suit designed by Pharrell Williams. She wore it with a large floppy hat, a pearl-covered Louis Vuitton bag, and sparkling Bvlgari jewellery. Her suit was inspired by the zoot suit, a bold style that symbolised Black Dandyism with pride and power in the 1970s and 1980s.
Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh made his debut too. He wore a sherwani-style suit by Prabal Gurung and a necklace inspired by a king, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. His cape had a map of Punjab on it, which was a special way to honour his culture.
Businesswoman Isha Ambani wore a beautiful three-piece dress by Anamika Khanna. She also wore a necklace that once belonged to a real Indian king, the Maharaja of Nawanagar. Her attire was modern yet traditional.
