Internet Archive Faces Cyberattack
What is the Internet Archive?

The Internet Archive (IA) is a cool website that started in 1996. It’s like a giant library on the internet with websites, old video games, music, and more - all for free!

One of its coolest features is the Wayback Machine. This magical tool lets you see what websites looked like a long time ago. It’s like a time machine for the internet!

Just type in a website address, pick a date, and the Wayback Machine shows you how the website looked back then. It’s a fun way to see how things have changed over time. Isn’t it awesome to explore the past like this?

The IA had a big problem - a cyberattack! This caused a data breach that showed the personal information of 31 million users. Yikes!

Experts told everyone to change their passwords right away. Brewster Kahle, the founder of IA, said they’re working hard to fix everything and make the website safe again. Right now, the site is down, and the Wayback Machine has limited access.

Importance of the Internet Archive.

The IA and the Wayback Machine are super important! They keep track of how things like websites and information have changed over time.

Students, researchers, and historians use these archives to learn about history, trends, and how people’s opinions have changed. Archiving things like books, websites, and software helps save important knowledge for the future.

This way, we can look back at the past, learn from it, and make sure important information isn’t lost.
