How many OneWeb satellites did ISRO launch?

On 26th March 2023, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched 36 OneWeb satellites into space. They were launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

The OneWeb satellites separated safely from the rocket that was used to launch them. Signal reception was confirmed from all 36 satellites.

This launch was part of an agreement between OneWeb and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL). NSIL is ISRO's commercial arm. The first set of 36 OneWeb satellites was launched on 23rd October 2022.

OneWeb is a London-based company that aims to provide high-speed internet services worldwide via satellite. The satellites will send internet signals to underserved communities, including isolated and faraway areas with no internet connectivity.

OneWeb satellites will fix this issue by sending internet signals directly to the ground, removing the need for costly infrastructure. The company will also give internet connectivity to governments, businesses, and communities all across the world.

Are there other companies similar to OneWeb?

Yes, there are other companies working on providing internet connectivity using satellites. One of the most well-known is Starlink. Starlink is the name of a satellite network built by SpaceX (the company owned by Elon Musk). Its goal is to give low-cost internet access to remote regions.

Amazon is another company working on satellite internet connectivity through its project named Project Kuiper. Project Kuiper intends to bring fast and affordable internet worldwide by using a satellite network.

It will also give internet access to households, businesses, government offices, and other organisations located in places with poor or weak internet signals.

So, let us hope that these companies will improve internet connectivity and provide the internet's benefits to the millions of people who do not have access to it.
