What is happening in Venice?

Venice's canals are a beautiful and well-known feature of the city's history and culture. Many people visit the city to see them. But, there are some serious issues in the city right now. Parts of Venice's canals have recently dried up. This is odd since Venice is prone to floods.

The canals are also used for transportation (can you imagine taking a gondola to school everyday)?. The drying of the canals has made transportation difficult. This can negatively affect people and businesses.

Experts say that the problem in the city is caused by a long period of low tides and a lack of rain. The current drought in Italy is thought to be the main cause of this problem. Several weeks of dry winter weather have raised fears that the country may face a drought similar to last year.

Since last summer, Italy has been facing a serious water shortage in its rivers and lakes. The water levels in Italy's longest river, the Po, are lower than usual for this time of year.
