<h5>What is the Michelin Guide?</h5><p>The Michelin Guides are a guidebook series by the French tyre firm Michelin. The restaurant guide has been an important part of Michelin since 1900. At that time, it took a lot of work to find good restaurants or hotels while travelling.</p><p>In 1900, André and Édouard Michelin (founders of Michelin) had the idea of producing a little handbook. This handbook contained information about the addresses of fuel pumps, garages, restaurants, hotels, etc., in France. That’s how the Michelin Guide was created. Soon after, the guidebook started covering many other places.</p><p>Later, the guidebook included a list of hotels in Paris and sorted restaurants into different categories. When the brothers noticed that the guide's restaurant section was doing well, they assembled a team of mystery diners (currently known as restaurant inspectors). Their work was to visit and rate restaurants anonymously.</p><p>In 1926, the book began awarding a ‘star’ to fine-dining restaurants. In 1931, a ranking system of zero, one, two, and three stars was developed. It came to be known as the Michelin Star and is given to restaurants worldwide for their excellent cooking. In fact, any restaurant can get a star.</p><p>One star is awarded to restaurants that consistently use high-quality ingredients and making distinctly flavourful dishes. Two stars are awarded when the chef's talent is seen in the dishes they create. Photo by The MICHELIN Guide.</figcaption></figure><h5>Who will be given the new award?</h5><p>On 5th October 2023, the Michelin Guide announced its intention to award excellent hotels worldwide with a new "key" emblem. The new award will help showcase remarkable hotels. The Michelin Key will be given out every year to such hotels.</p><p>Michelin Guide's hotel specialists will give the award following anonymous hotel stays. The specialists are currently analysing various hotels. Photo by The MICHELIN Guide.</figcaption></figure><p>There are five selection criteria:</p><ol><li>The hotel must be like a destination itself, enhancing the local experience.</li><li>Interior design and architecture excellence</li><li>The individuality of the hotel</li><li>Service quality and consistency, maintenance, and comfort</li><li>Pricing and the level of experience must match.</li></ol><p>Unlike restaurant ratings, whether a hotel can obtain more than one key is unknown.</p>

The new award will be presented to the best hotels worldwide.
