<h5>How many children were rescued?</h5><p>Recently, four small children were rescued from the Amazon over a month after they went missing in the rainforest. They were discovered 40 days after going missing following a plane tragedy. The successful rescue operation was announced on Twitter by Colombian President Gustavo Petro.</p><p>Petro stated that the children were all together when they were discovered. The rescue of the four children brought joy to the entire country and the world. The children's grandmother was overjoyed with the news.</p><p>After being rescued, the kids were checked by doctors before being moved to the country’s capital city, Bogota. Petro stated that the youngsters were weak and in need of food. Their physical and mental health is being checked at the military hospital.</p><h5>How did the four children go missing?</h5><p>Lesly Jacobombaire Mucutuy, 13, Soleiny Jacobombaire Mucutuy, 9, Tien Ranoque Mucutuy, 4, and infant Cristin Ranoque Mucutuy were the only survivors of a horrific plane crash that occurred on 1st May 2023. Their mother, Magdalena Mucutuy Valencia, and the two pilots were killed in the crash.</p><p>The bodies of the three adults were found at the crash site. However, it appeared that the children had managed to escape the wreckage. They had walked into the rainforest to get help. Following their disappearance, a large military-led search operation was launched.</p><h5>How was the military-led search operation conducted?</h5><p>The search operation included over a hundred Colombian military personnel and 70 indigenous people. The search party found footprints, a dirty diaper, and a bottle. Family members of the children said that the oldest kid had some knowledge about the forest and they might survive.</p><p>Small footprints were also found, leading search crews to believe the youngsters were still alive in the rainforest. Helicopters were used to send a message in the children’s native language, asking them to stop moving so they might be found. Soldiers also dropped food boxes from helicopters into the jungle, hoping the kids would find and eat them.</p><p>However, no trace of the children was found as the weeks passed. People were slowly losing hope. Still, they continued searching, and thankfully, the good news of their rescue came. The kids were found in an area that had no trees. Their knowledge about the jungle’s fruits helped them survive all these weeks. After the plane crashed, the kids took a fariña out of the wreckage. They ate that for the first few days and later survived on fruits. They also had to defend themselves from a dog.</p><p>Thankfully, the four kids were rescued successfully by the military. The officials said the eldest child, a girl, had some understanding of how to survive in the rainforest. She helped protect the children during their time in the jungle before being rescued.</p>
