<h5>Where was the new species of cockroach discovered?</h5><p>A new species of cockroach was found in Singapore. The species has been named “Pheromosa”. It has been named after a Pokémon that looks like a cockroach. This Pokémon appears in the video game series. This species is a part of the family Nocticolidae.</p><p>Foo Maosheng and Cristian Lucanas are the super cool scientists who chose to name the new species after a Pokémon.</p><p>This is not the first time a species has been named after a Pokémon. In 2021, researchers named three Australian beetles after Pokémon Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. However, scientists collected a specimen to study it further. They dissected it and realised that it was a previously undiscovered species.</p><p>Unlike American cockroaches, Nocticola pheromosa, the newly discovered species of cockroaches, is more sensitive. This is because they dwell in well-protected environments. However, not much is known about them. Scientists do not know where they came from.</p><h5>What is the importance of cockroaches in nature?</h5><p>Most (all!?) of us don’t like cockroaches. But they play an important role in the ecosystem. Cockroaches are natural decomposers, so they consume dead plants and animals. They even eat many types of insects. This helps in preventing the spread of diseases. Cockroaches also fill the bellies of many birds, fish, etc. So they are also natural food.</p><p>On the brighter side, when cockroaches die, they become an excellent source of nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus for soil.
