What happened in Turkey and Syria?
On 6th February 2023, an earthquake hit Turkey and northwest Syria. This has resulted in several deaths, injuries, and property damage (oh no!). Rescue workers are trying to save people from the rubble.
Also, the freezing weather has increased the suffering of hundreds of injured or homeless people. The weather is also delaying efforts to find survivors, but the officials are doing everything possible to help the people.
How serious is the damage?
The earthquake destroyed many buildings in Turkish cities and has added to the destruction caused by years of war for millions of Syrians (how awful!). Over 5,500 buildings have been destroyed. Poor internet connections and damaged roads have made it difficult to estimate the full extent of the destruction.
What help has been offered to both countries?

Our world is home to many countries and people. We disagree sometimes, but at the end of the day, we are all humans first. So, whenever a country faces a disaster, other countries step forward to help. The same thing happened during this sad event too.
Many governments and humanitarian groups have rushed to help in the rescue operations in Turkey and Syria. The European Union (EU) has sent search and rescue teams to Turkey and will also be helping Syria. Russia has sent teams to Syria to help with the removal of rubble and the look for survivors and also provided help to Turkey.
Israel is also sending a search-and-rescue team to Turkey. The United States of America (USA) is sending teams to Turkey to help them. Humanitarian groups backed by the USA are also travelling to Syria. Even though Israel and Syria do not have a friendly relationship, Israel has approved a request for aid for Syria.
India has sent search and rescue teams, specially trained dog squads, and relief materials to Turkey. Other countries, including Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Germany, etc., have also offered help to both countries.
What did we learn from this article?

From this article, we can learn about the value of helping others in need. Just like the many countries who are stepping up to help Turkey and Syria, we must also help others in a time of need.
We hope Turkey and Syria quickly recover from this tragedy.
