HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is a harmful virus. It makes the body's immune system weak. HIV can cause a serious illness called AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).

Our bodies have white blood cells (WBCs) to fight germs. HIV destroys these cells, making it easier to get sick. People with HIV can get infected with other diseases as well.

HIV can spread through body fluids like blood. It can also spread if two or more people share syringes or other injecting equipment.

HIV affecting students in Tripura!

Many students in Tripura have HIV. An official from the Tripura State AIDS Control Society (TSACS) said that 828 students have HIV, and sadly, 47 have died.

The TSACS thinks the spread happened because students shared needles when injecting harmful substances into their bodies.

Some people use these harmful substances because they think it makes them feel good or helps them forget their problems. But it is dangerous and can hurt them.

Tripura government responds!

The Tripura government said the report was wrong. The number of cases didn’t happen recently but is from April 2007 to May 2024.

But, officials need to stop the use of harmful substances. This will stop people from sharing needles and spreading HIV.

Preventive measures!

Make sure the nurse or doctor uses a fresh syringe when taking your blood or giving vaccines. They should also wear gloves and use clean tools.

In public places like movie theatres or parks, don't touch sharp things because they might be infected with the HIV virus.

If you get a cut, get help right away. An open cut can let germs into your body. Also, learn and teach others about dangerous diseases like AIDS.
