Is ChatGPT Making Us Less Smart?
ChatGPT is a smart AI tool. Many people use it to write, do homework, or get answers. It feels easy and fun to use.
But scientists have found something surprising. Using ChatGPT too much can make our brains slower!
How Did Scientists Learn This?
Scientists from MIT, a big university in the USA, did an experiment. They asked 54 people to write an essay. Some used only their brain, some used Google, while some used ChatGPT.
All of them wore a special device called an EEG headset. This device reads brain signals to show how hard the brain is working.
What Did They See?
People who used ChatGPT had the least brain activity. Their brains were not trying hard.
After a few minutes, most of them forgot what they had just written. In fact, most of the people who used ChatGPT could not remember even one sentence!
Even many months later, people who used ChatGPT a lot found it hard to think or write on their own.
Why Is This a Problem?
Our brain is like a muscle. It needs practice to grow strong. When we think and write, our brain gets better.
If we use ChatGPT all the time, our brains become lazy. This is called “cognitive atrophy.” It means the brain forgets how to think well.
This is not good for kids. Our brains are still growing. We need to think on our own to become smart and strong.
What Should We Do?
ChatGPT can help us. But we should try things first by ourselves. It’s like using a cycle. You should know how to walk before riding.
Use ChatGPT like a helper, not the main worker. Let your brain do the work. Then ask ChatGPT for help.
In the end, using your brain is the best way to grow!
