The world has lost a musical legend. Zakir Hussain, a famous Indian tabla player, has died in San Francisco, USA, at the age of 73. He was in the hospital because of a lung illness.

People everywhere, including big artists, are sharing messages to honour this amazing musician.

Zakir Hussain was born on 9th March 1951 in Bombay (now Mumbai), India. His father, Ustad Allah Rakha Khan, was also a great tabla player.

Hussain started learning tabla when he was a child. By age 7, he was playing on stage, and at just 12, he started travelling around the world for concerts!

Zakir Hussain’s music was special. He played the tabla and worked with musicians from all over the world. He even mixed Indian music with jazz and other styles. His music brought people together and spread happiness.

Zakir Hussain achieved many great things:

He won 4 Grammy Awards!

He got India’s top honours like the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan.

He made music for the 1996 Olympics opening ceremony in Atlanta, USA.
