<h5>What is a start-up?</h5>  <p>Think of all the cool things that exist today that didn’t, just a few years ago. Whether you want to have farm-fresh veggies delivered to your home or pay a local store using your mobile phone; whatever your need or desire, chances are that a start-up exists to fulfil them. So what exactly is a start-up?
A start-up is a new company that’s in the early stages of its operations. The person who creates a start-up is called an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur is someone who starts a business based on their idea and tries to turn it into a product or service that people will buy or use.
It sounds cool and fun to launch a start-up, but remember, they are very risky. An entrepreneur has to put a lot of money into their start-up with no guarantee that it will be successful. Despite its high chance of failure, India is one of the best places in the world for entrepreneurs to create start-ups.</p> <h5>How come India’s start-up scene is so awesome?</h5> <figure>

      </figure> <p>India is the world’s third-largest start-up ecosystem, right after the USA and China. In 2016, there were 733 new start-ups in India. In 2021, the number of new start-ups in India was 14,000! The total number of start-ups in the country, according to the Government, is 61,400.
What these numbers show is that start-ups are very popular in India. Let’s look at some of the reasons why India is such a wonderful ecosystem for start-ups:</p>
<p>1. Large market: Our population of 1.3 billion people is working to our advantage here. Such a large and diverse group of people have many needs and desires. Entrepreneurs are always looking for ways to solve our problems.</p>
<p>2. Rise of the internet: India has the second-largest internet user-base in the world. This makes it easier for entrepreneurs to communicate with Indians and sell them their products and services.</p>
<p>3. Government Help: The Indian Government has come up with various solutions and policies to encourage entrepreneurs to create start-ups.</p>
<p>Due to these supportive conditions, 44 start-ups became unicorns in India in 2021.
</p> <h5>Wait, unicorns are real?</h5>  <p>Yep, but not the fantastic horses with a horn on their heads (although we do wish they were)!
A unicorn is a start-up that is worth $1 billion (that’s around INR 7,500 crores). Since unicorns are super-duper successful start-ups, there’s only a limited number of them around the world. India has 83 unicorns. In fact, India has the third-highest number of unicorns in the world, again right after the USA and China.
</p> <h5>Did you know about these awesome start-ups created by kids?</h5>  <p>Grown-ups don’t get to have all the fun. Some entrepreneurs in India are children who are just a little older than you. One of them is a teenager named Tilak Mehta who started a courier company named ‘PapersNParcels’. Advait Thakur started a technology company called Apex Infosys India when he was 15. Srilakshmi Suresh launched a technology company named eDesign Technologies when she was just 11!
