With tourists expected to come to the city for the 2024 Olympics, concerns about health and safety are growing. The insects were found more frequently in France before they vanished in the 1950s. However, an increase in worldwide travel accessibility and growing insecticide resistance caused them to rise again. Transport Minister Clément Beaune recently said he would meet with transport organisations to discuss solving this problem and protecting travellers.</p><p>Paris’s Deputy Mayor, Emmanuel Grégoire, has asked insurers to provide bedbug coverage in home insurance policies. This is because low-income households don’t have enough resources to hire pest control companies.</p><p>The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health &amp; Safety (ANSES) has said that financial assistance should be given to victims of bedbug infestations, especially to those from low-income households, because the treatment can be costly.</p><h5>What are the signs of bedbug infestation?</h5><p>Bite marks on the face, neck, arms, hands, or other body parts while sleeping are one of the simplest ways to recognise a bed bug infestation. However, these bite marks can take up to 14 days to form in some people.</p><p>So, it’s important to know additional signs, which are:</p><ul><li>exoskeletons of bedbugs after moulting,</li><li>bedbugs in the folds of mattresses and sheets,</li><li>rusty-coloured blood stains due to the blood-filled faecal matter that they release on mattresses, furniture, etc.</li></ul><h5>How to avoid and get rid of bedbugs?</h5><p>Bedding, curtains, and clothing should be washed in hot water and dried. A brush can be used to scrub mattresses to remove bedbugs and their eggs. The bed and the adjacent area must be cleaned regularly. To keep bedbugs out, one must use a mattress cover.</p><p>However, It's better to change one’s mattress if it is infested with bedbugs. Chemical treatments are frequently required to eliminate bedbugs. It is better to hire people who are professionally trained to do so.</p>
