What is the history of yoga?

Yoga is a practice that helps the mind and body work together. It's about staying healthy by doing different poses, breathing exercises, and meditation. Yoga uses poses called asanas to improve flexibility, strength, and balance.

People have been doing yoga for a very long time. Did you know that yoga was practised even thousands of years ago? Old artefacts show that even ancient Indian civilisations used to do yoga. It has also been mentioned in folklore and ancient Indian texts.

Nowadays, many people worldwide practise yoga. Learning yoga has become easier thanks to online resources, mobile apps, and YouTube videos. These tools have made yoga more accessible to people worldwide who want to practise and learn it for a healthy lifestyle.

What are the benefits of doing yoga?

Yoga has many benefits for one’s body, mind, and emotions. It has become more popular because it has so many benefits. When someone does yoga, it makes them stronger, more balanced, and more flexible.

One great thing about yoga is that it can help relieve lower back pain. Doctors often recommend yoga as a treatment for people with lower back pain. Regular yoga practice can also reduce stress, which is good for heart health.

Research shows that yoga can help someone sleep better and feel more energised during the day. It can also improve one’s focus and put one in a good mood. These are some benefits of practising yoga. With the International Day of Yoga being celebrated today, 21st June 2023, we can all try to do some yoga to improve our health.

What do we know about the International Day of Yoga?

The International Day of Yoga was introduced at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2014. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, came up with the idea during a UNGA meeting in 2014. It was first observed on 21st June 2015.

The purpose of this special day is to let people know about the many benefits of doing yoga. It's also a day when people from different places, cultures, and countries come together to celebrate and do yoga.
