Sheikh Hasina resigns!
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina quit her post and fled the country following weeks of protests against her and the government.
She flew to India on a military plane. People were so happy that they celebrated in the streets!
President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved the parliament, and an interim government was formed.
He also freed Begum Khaleda Zia, a former prime minister and opposition of Hasina who was under house arrest, and all the students who were arrested during the protests.

Protests against the government!
In July 2024, students in Bangladesh were upset because the court brought back an old job quota rule. This rule stated that many jobs would go to families of those involved in the 1971 war who helped Bangladesh become independent.
A good section of jobs was also reserved for women, people with disabilities, and ethnic minorities. This meant there were fewer jobs for the other students. The students protested this as there were already very few jobs in the country.
Sadly, many people got hurt during the protests, and Sheikh Hasina also criticised the protestors. Later, the court passed a new rule that most jobs should go to people with the right skills.
But the protests continued, and many demanded justice for those who were hurt and asked for Hasina's resignation.
Sheikh Hasina disliked.
People were very upset with Sheikh Hasina because of the violence during the protests. They thought the security officials were being too rough. Some people also said she was mean to her opponents, but she denied it.
The protests got bigger and scarier, so Hasina quit and decided to leave the country.
What’s next for the nation?
Muhammad Yunus will help lead the interim government to bring stability to the nation. He had earlier won the Nobel Peace Prize for helping poor people.
