This marked the start of a new chapter for Syria after 13 long years of war under Assad’s rule.

The war in Syria.
The war in Syria started in 2011. People wanted more freedom and better rights. They protested peacefully. But Bashar al-Assad did not want to lose his power. He sent soldiers to stop the protests, which resulted in a huge fight.
By 2012, a civil war had started in Syria. Thousands died, and millions of people had to leave their homes. But now, after many years, people are happy.

How did the fighters win?
Around the 27th November 2024, opposition groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, captured Aleppo, Syria’s second-largest city.
They moved fast, took control of many cities, and finally reached Damascus, the capital city. As they moved, soldiers and police from the government started running away. It was clear the fighters had won.
Soon, news broke out that Assad had left the country. It was clear the fighters had won. People all over Syria celebrated. They said it was the end of an evil government.
The future of Syria is not clear, but for now, people are hopeful. They are excited for a better future.
