Why has Bournvita reduced its added sugar content?

About eight months ago, there was a controversy about Cadbury's Bournvita chocolate 'health' drink having too much sugar. It was all over social media. We also wrote about it. Recently, the company has decided to use less added sugar.

This happened because a health influencer named Revant Himatsingka, also known as Food Pharmer, talked about the high sugar content in a video from April 2023. When he released the video, he got a legal notice saying his claims were false.

However, many people watched the video and criticised the company. Himatsingka got support from others, like the media, doctors, politicians, etc. Even the government sent a legal notice to the company about the high sugar content.

How much-added sugar content was reduced?

Bournvita now has 15% less sugar. Before, there were 37.4 grams of added sugar in every 100 grams of powder. Now, the new package says there are only 32.2 grams of sugar in every 100 grams.

Revant Himatsingka says the recent decision will make other companies more careful before selling junk food they say is healthy.

What did we learn from this article?

We can learn that anyone can make a difference. Revant Himatsingka used social media to tell others about the drink. Even though the company sent him a legal notice, other people supported him, leading to a good outcome. This shows that when many people work together, good things can happen.

It also shows how powerful social media is in sharing helpful information. It teaches us that companies should be honest with customers about what they sell. Also, do remember to eat healthy food. To stay healthy, one must eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, grains, etc.
