Folklore related to the Chinese New Year.

A long time ago, there was a scary sea monster called Nian. It came to villages on New Year’s Eve and frightened everyone!

But the villagers found out that Nian was scared of red and loud noises. So, they wore red clothes, used firecrackers, and put up red decorations to keep Nian away.

Even today, people celebrate with fireworks and lots of red!
