Deo Kato completes his run.
Deo Kato is a man from Uganda who lives in England. He did something amazing! Deo was the first person to run from Cape Town, South Africa, to London, England. That’s a huge run – 8,200 miles (13,000 kilometres)! He finished in December 2024.
Deo ran for 518 days to show people how bad racism is. He ran through many countries and ended his run at Downing Street in London. Deo was born in Uganda, but he moved to England when he was 10 years old.
Deo’s journey was very hard. He got sick, had trouble with visas, and even went to prison! In some places, people treated him badly because of his skin colour.
He started his run in Cape Town in July 2023. He ran through places with war, like Congo and Ethiopia. In Europe, some people were not kind. They called the police on him or filmed him in a mean way.
But Deo didn’t give up. He believes his run shows that people from different countries can come together. He dreams of a world where there is no racism.
The ugly face of racism.

Racism is when people treat others unfairly because of their skin colour or where they are from. It can happen at school, at work, or even on the street.
Racism hurts people. It makes them feel sad or scared. It also stops us from seeing how special and wonderful everyone is. Racism makes people hate each other.
Stand up against racism.
Racism is wrong. We can all fight it together! Here’s how:
- Speak up if you see someone being treated unfairly.
- Be kind to everyone, no matter how they look or where they come from.
- Learn about other cultures and celebrate them.
- Support people who face racism.
Schools, workplaces, and governments also need to help stop racism. Together, we can create a world where everyone is happy and belongs!
