What's The News?
COVID-19 cases are increasing again. In just 10 days from 19th May to 29th May, over 1,000 new people got sick. Most cases are in Kerala (430), Maharashtra (210), and Delhi (104).
Most people are not very sick, but a few have lost their lives. These people were already not very well. Doctors say we should be careful, but there is no big danger this time.
What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is a disease caused by a very tiny germ called a 'virus'. The name of the virus that causes COVID is 'coronavirus'. It started in China in December 2019. In 2020 and 2021, it spread all over the world. This is called a pandemic.
To stop the virus, many countries, including India, went into lockdown. This means schools, shops, offices, and buses or trains were all closed. People had to stay home. Millions of people got sick, and sadly, many lost their lives.
Why is COVID back?
Viruses don't go away forever. They change into new types called variants. In May 2025, a new coronavirus variant called ‘NB.1.8.1’ was found. That is why more people are getting sick again.
It is not just India. Countries like Thailand, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore are also seeing more cases. The World Health Organization (WHO) says this is happening in many countries.
How Can We Be Safe?
There are many ways to stay safe. We should wear masks in crowded places. We should wash our hands. We must stay away from people if we are sick, and we should not touch our face with dirty hands.
The best way to stay safe is to get the COVID vaccine. It helps people not get very sick. It also helps protect others who cannot take the vaccine, like babies and sick people.
Stay Safe, Stay Healthy
COVID is still here. But we know how to fight it now and are ready. We must keep good habits and follow health rules. Together, we can stay safe and healthy.
