What is the UNSC?
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is like a superhero team for the world! This group has 15 members—5 are permanent: China, France, Russia, the USA, and the United Kingdom (UK), and the other 10 are elected for two years.
The UNSC’s job is to keep the world peaceful and safe. It helps countries solve problems without fighting. If things get terrible, it can even punish countries or allow the use of force to restore peace.
India backed for permanent membership.

Big leaders like UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov think India should become a permanent member of the UNSC.
India has been asking for this for a long time, but China says no because they have a special veto power to stop it.
Supporters say it’s time for a change! India is growing fast and becoming a leader. Everyone is waiting to see if India will finally get its chance to shine in the UNSC!
Advantage of being a UNSC permanent member.
The five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have a special superpower: veto power! This means they can say “no” to any decision or resolution, even if everyone else agrees with it.
Here’s a fun example: Imagine your class wants ice cream, and everyone thinks it’s a great idea. However, five kids make the ultimate decision; even if four of them agree and one says “no,” no one gets ice cream.
Just like that, if one of the permanent members of the UNSC doesn’t like an idea, they can use their veto power to stop it. Over the years, they have used this power to help their own countries and improve their connections with allies.
