Why is Holi celebrated?
Holi, the festival of colours, is a fun celebration in India. This year, it will be celebrated on 25th March 2024. During Holi, we celebrate good winning over bad, the joys of life, and the start of spring.
It also honours the love of Radha and Krishna. The day also celebrates Lord Vishnu's victory against the evil king Hiranyakashipu. The story goes that Hiranyakashipu took his sister Holika’s help in burning his son Prahlada, who prayed to Lord Vishnu. But the fire did not hurt the boy and instead burned Holika. This shows that good always wins over evil.

How is Holi celebrated?
People celebrate Holi by throwing colourful powder and water, making everyone look bright with different colours. It's a day of laughter and fun. Families and friends come together to enjoy the celebrations, play with colours, and make lasting memories.
After the festivities, people look like walking rainbows. But Holi is more than just colours; it's also about dancing, enjoying yummy food, and having a great time. However, it's important to remember the dos and don’ts of celebrating this festival.
What are some dos and don’ts about Holi?

Use eco-friendly colours for Holi. Natural colours are better than artificial ones, which can cause skin rashes. Before you start playing, apply oil or moisturiser on your skin and hair to wash off the colours easily later.
Respect everyone's choice if they don't want to play. Don't force anyone to join or put colours on them forcefully, as some may have health concerns. Do not throw water balloons at people in vehicles, as it can cause accidents. Do not put colours on strangers.
Also, remember not to put colours or water on animals, and keep your pets indoors during Holi. Remember - animals can lick the colour to clean their fur, and that can make them very sick.
Be mindful not to make a mess in public places. Dispose of trash properly and be aware of how much water you use. Holi is a fun festival, but water is a valuable resource that should not be wasted.
Follow these rules for a happy, safe, and respectful Holi celebration. Enjoy the festival with your friends and family and eat delicious food. We at Newsahoot wish you and your family a very happy Holi.
