</p> <h5>What could have caused the earth to rotate faster?</h5>  <p>On 29th July 2022, the Earth completed a full spin 1.59 milliseconds lesser than the normal 24 hours that it usually takes. </p>

Scientists aren’t exactly sure what is causing the earth to rotate faster. They say that the reason could be linked to climate change, change in the ocean’s tides, or disproportionate ice in the polar caps of the Earth.
</p> <h5>So who’s recording the speed of the earth’s rotations?</h5>  <p>You may be surprised to learn this, but there are specific organisations that keep track of how fast the earth spins. One such organisation is called the International Earth Rotation Service.</p>
<p>This organisation even tells countries when extra milliseconds must be added or taken away to ensure that the difference in every country's timezone remains constant.</p>
<p>The change in time is recorded by atomic clocks which are used to measure the speed of the planet down to the smallest second.
</p> <h5>What does this mean for us?</h5>  <p>You may wonder, hey, what’s the big deal? Are a few milliseconds really that important? Yes, a few seconds and even a few milliseconds do matter.</p>

These shorter days might even be the start of a pattern. According to Interesting Engineering - a community for lovers of technology and sciences - atomic clocks have recently revealed that the Earth's rotation is rapidly accelerating. A 50-year phase of shorter days may be starting right now.
The tracking of time must be done very carefully and accurately. Irregularity in time can crash computer programs.
If our days are reduced by milliseconds each day, can you imagine how much shorter our days will become in a few hundred or even a thousand years?</p>
