<h5>Is the study of plants slowly disappearing?</h5>  <p>We all know how fascinating it is to learn about man-made inventions. But you know what is even more fascinating? Learning about creations that exist in nature! Yes! Plants, animals, and human beings were one of nature’s earliest creations.</p>
<p>Nature is so fascinating and thoughtfully designed. From the water cycle that completes itself to the blossoms on trees, that know when to fall in autumn and bloom again in spring!</p>
<p>According to a recent study in the United Kingdom (UK), people have become more disconnected from the world of botany. Researchers believe that our lack of knowledge about plants might be harmful to our environment in the future.</p> <h5>Why don’t people want to study plants anymore?</h5>  <p>In the last few decades, people have started to focus a lot more on technology. You may have noticed that even in public, some people are constantly on their phones. They don’t even look up! Sometimes, this leads to people feeling distant from nature and their physical surroundings.</p>

<p>Research scientists in the UK claim that the study of plants is being ignored in many education systems around the world.</p>
<p>Earlier, botany was a compulsory part of many university and school programmes. But now botany isn’t a popular subject among school and college-going kids. That could be one reason why it is slowly disappearing from the education system.
</p> <h5>How will this affect humankind?</h5>  <p>Research says that our neglect of learning about plants could be making our environmental problems worse. They believe that plants could help us fight major environmental issues like climate change.</p>

<p>Botany doesn’t just include the study of plants that exist today, but also their ancestors. This helps us understand how plants have changed throughout the years, in response to newer living conditions like warmer temperatures.</p>
<p>At school, we do learn about plant functions like germination and photosynthesis, but we don’t learn how to identify many other plants. Being able to identify plants could help us spot a rare flower, or even helps us steer clear of poisonous plants!
</p> <h5>How will knowledge of plants help us save the planet?</h5>  <p>A world without the study of plants could very well mean a world without plants! If there are very few people interested in preserving our flora, then there’s little chance of its survival.</p>
<p>The Scottish Government has recognized knowledge of plants as an important skill. It is used by many other professionals, like engineers and architects, and teachers, and not just by farmers and foresters.</p>
<p>Engineers and architects could use their knowledge of plants to design buildings in a way that protects the plant life around them. Knowledge of plants could help them use eco-friendly materials and designs that won’t harm plants in that area. 
</p> <h5>Can we turn this situation around?</h5>  <p>Luckily it's not too late! We can bring about change by encouraging schools to teach us more about plants. Everyone should be encouraged to learn about the special plants and endangered flowers in their own country, or even their city. 
You can take charge as well! You could ask your biology teacher to take the class on an informative nature walk around school! Or even visit your city’s botanical garden for a field trip.
