<h5>What discoveries have been made in Iraq?
</h5>  <p>Archaeologists have identified the roots of our modern civilization through the findings made in various ancient civilizations (for example, the Harappan, Mesopotamian, and Mohenjo Daro civilizations). These discoveries have provided evidence about the life and culture of our ancestors.</p>
<p>Similarly, two such amazing discoveries have been made in Iraq recently. Archaeologists in southern Iraq found the remains of a public eating area that dates back about 5000 years. A tavern was discovered among the ruins of Lagash, a major Sumerian civilization site. </p>
<p>Researchers discovered an oven, benches, and an ancient clay refrigerator known as a "zeer." There was leftover food in bowls and other objects as well. </p>
<p>Another discovery was also made. A 4,500-year-old palace from the ancient city of Girsu was also discovered. This palace was also found in modern-day southern Iraq.

      </figure> <p>The ancient city of Lagash has recently gained a lot of attention. Many research teams have visited the place to search for artefacts related to the past. The recent artefacts (zeer and leftover food) discovered here offer unique insights into the lives of regular people who lived in cities 4,700 years ago.</p>
<p>The discovery will also shed light on the daily living habits of people of that time. The palace that was discovered can provide a better knowledge of Sumerian history. This is due to the fact that the site contains approximately 200 cuneiform tablets with administrative data related to the city of Girsu.</p>
<p>Girsu is one of the earliest cities ever discovered. This city is regarded to be the birthplace of urban society. So, the discoveries can also help researchers understand the Sumerian civilization in a better manner.

      </figure> <p>The ancient tavern in Lagash was discovered by teams from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pisa. They used cutting-edge technology like drone photography, thermal imaging, etc.</p>
<p>British and Iraqi archaeologists worked together to discover the Sumerian palace. It was found using satellite imagery and various other methods.</p> <h5>Who were the Sumerians?</h5> <figure>
