Guess what? India’s education ministry has a fun new idea to make school days extra cool! They’re starting something called "bagless days" for students in classes 6 to 8.

What’s a bagless day? It’s a day when students will not take their heavy backpacks and only engage in fun and exciting activities at school. This decision was taken to make learning more enjoyable and stress-free.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 proposes that all students in classes 6–8 participate in a 10-day bagless period.

The objective of the 10 bagless days.

In this cool new program, students in Grades 6-8 will have a chance to learn in a fun manner. This will help students use what they learn in school for real-life skills. They’ll discover new possibilities and build skills like creativity and teamwork.

Under this initiative, kids in classes 6-8 will:

  • Kids will try cool activities that will provide hands-on training in numerous crafts, such as carpentry and gardening.
  • They’ll work with local experts and learn real-life skills.
  • There will also be other fun activities like art, quizzes, sports, and more.
  • Students will visit exciting places like historical sites, meet artists, and check out higher education institutions.
  • They will also visit vegetable markets, learn about pet care, help with a book fair, and check out a solar park.

This will help them learn about different jobs and what they might want to do in the future!

How will it work?

For the fun bagless days, schools can spread out the activities over the year, maybe in two or three parts. Teachers will help plan these days, and kids might do indoor and outdoor activities on the same day.
