IMD issues alerts!
Everyone can feel the heat these days, especially when you step outside.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, saying that temperatures could increase further.
Temperatures could rise a lot, with a severe heatwave expected across North India, including Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, etc., from 18-20 May 2024.
Effect of rising heat on humans.

High temperatures and heatwaves can lead to heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heatstroke. People can also fall severely ill from staying under the sun for too long.
Effects of this heat can range from mild discomfort to even something severe that might require hospitalisation. So, do take care of yourself.
Protect yourself.

First, drink enough water to stay hydrated. Avoid going out in the sun, especially from 12 pm to 3 pm. If you are at school, avoid playing directly under the sun.
Wear light-coloured, loose clothes. If you need to go out, you must carry an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun. Also, carry a water bottle with you.
How can we help others?
While most of us stay indoors during hot weather, others aren't as fortunate.
People like our house help and delivery agents work in the extreme heat. We can offer them water to help them stay cool.
We can also keep some water bowls outside our house for the street animals.
