<h5>What are chores?</h5>  <p>The two places that we spend most of our time are home and school. Sometimes your teacher might ask the class monitor to collect everyone’s notebooks. She may give you the duty of dusting the blackboard after every period. These little activities are also called chores. They just happen to be chores we do at school. </p>

A chore is an activity that you have to do routinely, usually at home. This could be like watering the plants or laying the table. But why should we do them? Easy! Because chores help us in maintaining a clean, healthy and hygienic environment. 
</p> <h5>Well, what’s in it for me?</h5>  <p>‘Chore’ does happen to rhyme with ‘bore’, and that's what many kids and adults think chores are - BORING! But doing chores could actually make you smarter! Says who? A recent study by La Trobe University in Australia. </p>

The study was done during the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020. In total, 207 parents and guardians participated in the study. They were asked to complete questionnaires about how many chores their child completes daily. The results of the study claimed that doing more chores might help kids get ahead in academics!
</p> <h5>What else does the study say?</h5>  <p>The study claims that doing chores regularly has many benefits for children. Yes, it's true! We’re not trying to trick you. Doing chores can help you with remembering and planning things. The study also mentions that activities like cooking or gardening can benefit children a lot.
Whenever we do chores, we practice executive functions like remembering things, planning and multitasking. Chores require us to go through many steps to complete them. So when we do a series of tasks in a particular order to complete a chore, we actually strengthen our executive functions.
These functions are important - not just for doing chores but for doing almost everything. They start to develop in our childhood and teenage years. By the time we become adults, these functions become essential and that’s why they are called life skills.
</p> <h5>I’m not convinced. Chores bore me. </h5>  <p>No one really loves doing chores. Wouldn’t we rather watch TV (or Netflix!)? Or chat with our friends? But chores are important for many reasons. Chores teach us about responsibility. When someone gives you a chore to do, it means they trust you to get the job done. </p>
<p>
Research shows that doing more chores is linked to better social behaviour. We feel pleased when we complete a task. This makes us feel proud of ourselves. It also helps us feel more content and confident.
</p> <h5>How can we make chores fun?</h5>  <p>If we can make news fun then we can surely make chores fun! Chores can feel boring when we have to do them alone. You could team up with your mother, father or sibling and make it a fun family activity time!
But what if nobody’s free and you don’t have a chore buddy? Then put on some music! You could have a small dance party while you clean up a messy room. Turn your chore into a game and award yourself points when you complete a task. You’ll be done in no time.
Everything can be made fun, even chores! You just have to find your own unique way to make them fun.
