<h5>Who is BTS?</h5>  <p>BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a Korean-pop (K-pop) boy band from South Korea. It comprises seven members, namely RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. They released their first album, 2 Cool 4 Skool, in 2013. 
Since then, they have amassed a huge fan following from all over the world. BTS fans refer to themselves as the ARMY (Adorable Representative MC for Youth). 
Over the years, BTS has used its popularity to raise awareness and contribute to various social issues such as racism, poverty, healthcare, protection of children against violence and hunger, etc. </p>
<p>Last year, they attended the ‘SDG Moment’, a major event held at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), to voice their concerns about climate change. In this yearly event about Sustainable Development Goals, UN member countries discuss their development goals and their plan to achieve them without harming the environment. 
</p> <h5>What is BTS doing to help the environment?</h5>  <p>In 2019, BTS became the global ambassador of Formula E, an electric street car racing series, to show how electric vehicles can help in combating air pollution. In 2020, they promoted Hyundai NEXO, a car that is run on hydrogen fuel-cell technology. </p>
<p>Just last year, they collaborated with an Italian clothing brand ‘Back to Nature’ that uses 100% recycled fabric to make their products. This year, BTS collaborated with Samsung to highlight the tech company’s initiative of producing their devices from repurposed fishing nets.</p>
<p>Inspired by the BTS’ message of sustainability, their fans have planted thousands of trees in several countries in the name of their favourite band member. For instance, Jungkook’s fans have planted four ‘Jungkook Forests’ in Korea with the help of the Korean Federation for Environmental Movement.
</p> <h5>Is BTS doing enough to help the environment?</h5>  <p>Many people have criticized the BTS for not leading a sustainable life. They still travel by private jets, which causes a lot of air pollution. They are also blamed for encouraging the over-consumption of their plastic albums and other merchandise.</p>

While it is true that BTS still lag in some areas, we should still appreciate their efforts. It was only because of their wide-ranging influence among the youth that around 10 lakh people attended the SDG Moment event online. 
</p> <h5>How can celebrities help make a change?</h5>  <p>Celebrities, owing to their huge fan following, can raise awareness about important social issues through social media posts, brand advertisements, appearances at important conferences, helping their governments etc. 
For example, many Indian movie stars and sports celebrities tried to encourage the common people to get their COVID vaccines and also helped dispel any myths about the same.</p>
<p>Celebrities can also use their economic resources to help the common people. They can either do this by donating money to causes of their choice or directly helping those in need. </p>
<p>Remember Sonu Sood and how he helped hundreds of people during the COVID-19 pandemic? That is just one example of celebrities using their influence to help people. </p>
