Why is Christmas celebrated?
Christmas is a special time for Christians all over the world. The birth of Jesus Christ on this day because he is believed to be the son of God.
However, the Bible doesn't tell us when Jesus was born. In the early years of Christianity, different communities celebrated Christmas on different dates. But in the year 336, under Emperor Constantine, the church in Rome started celebrating Christmas on December 25th. That's how the present celebration date originated from ancient times.
How is Christmas celebrated in different countries?

In India, people decorate churches and houses for Christmas. Many sing Christmas carols and attend midnight mass. Christmas trees are also decorated in many places. People eat yummy foods on this day and spend time with their loved ones.
Christmas traditions are similar in the US, the United Kingdom (UK), and Europe. People around the world celebrate Christmas by eating tasty food. They decorate their homes with lights and ornament-filled Christmas trees. Christmas presents are put under the trees on Christmas Eve (24th December) and opened the next morning. Family members usually leave them there, but many kids believe the gifts are from Santa Claus.
In many cities worldwide, streets and parks are also decorated with lights, ribbons, etc. But almost everywhere on Christmas, people give gifts to their loved ones. They also spread happiness by giving presents to those in need.
In Australia, Christmas is celebrated at the start of the summer holidays (yes, it's summer in Australia during these months). Australians also decorate their houses and sing Christmas carols. Since Christmas in Australia happens during summer, the words in the carols about snow and cold winter are sometimes changed.
It is also said that when Santa Claus comes to Australia, he might give his reindeer a break and use kangaroos to deliver gifts to children. These are some common Christmas traditions.
Who is Santa Claus?

Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, is a friendly character in red who brings gifts to kids on Christmas Eve. Although Santa Claus is made up, he's inspired by a real person named St. Nicholas, who was a monk living in what is now Turkey.
St. Nicholas was famous for his kindness and helping others. He gave away all his inherited money and travelled around, assisting those in need. Eventually, he became known as the protector of children.
