<h5>What is COP27?</h5>  <p>Every year, the United Nations (UN) holds climate summits to encourage governments to take steps for limiting global temperature rises. They're known as the Conference of the Parties (COPs). The parties are the countries that signed up to the original UN climate agreement in 1992.</p>

COP27 is the 27th annual UN climate conference. It is being held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt from 6th November 2022 to 18th November 2022. COP27 will focus on three main areas: (1) reducing emissions; (2) assisting countries in preparing for and dealing with climate change; and (3) securing funding and technical assistance for developing countries to do so.
The COP is the main decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and it checks the progress made in fighting climate change. India is also taking part in COP27 and has presented its long-term vision for moving towards a “low emissions” route.

      </figure> <p>India announced its long-term strategy to ensure the nation has "low emissions." This will include tripling its nuclear power capacity over the next decade, becoming an international hub for producing green hydrogen and increasing the amount of ethanol blended in petrol.</p>
<p>These steps are connected with India's five-decade journey to net zero or becoming carbon neutral by 2070. The Long Term - Low Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) was developed so that India can play its part to protect the environment. This strategy prioritises energy security, energy access, and job creation.
To achieve net zero, the country will be looking for new technological developments and international cooperation.</p> <h5>What is India planning to do?</h5>  <p>India plans to increase the use of electric vehicles. It will also be looking to increase ethanol blending to 20% (from 10% now) by 2025. The country will also prioritise public transportation for passengers. India is also looking to increase energy efficiency through various schemes.</p>
<p>To reduce emissions, India will focus on increased electrification, recycling, etc. India's forest and tree cover absorbed 15% of carbon dioxide emissions and the country is targeting to increase that by 2.5 to 3 billion tonnes by 2030.</p>
<p>By 2030, half of India’s electricity will be derived from non-fossil fuel sources. Emissions will also be reduced by 45%. This strategy can guide the development of Indian industry, urban planning, and infrastructure construction. Experts have praised the plan but suggested that more needs to be done.</p> <h5>What did we learn from this article?</h5>  <p>We learned what India is trying to do to lower emissions. Saving our environment is crucial for our survival. The countries must also join forces and keep aside any differences to save the planet and combat climate change.
