What is COP27?
Every year, the United Nations (UN) holds climate summits to encourage governments to work for limiting global temperature rises. They're known as the Conference of the Parties (COPs). The parties are the countries that signed the original UN climate agreement in 1992.
COP27 is the 27th UN climate conference and is being held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. It is being held from 6th November 2022 to 18th November 2022. COP27 will focus on three main areas: (1) lowering emissions; (2) helping countries prepare for and deal with climate change; and (3) getting technical and financial help for developing countries.
India is also participating in COP27 and has presented its plan to achieve “low emissions.”
Okay! What has India presented?

India presented its long-term strategy to achieve "low emissions." This includes tripling its nuclear power capacity during the next decade, becoming a global hub for green hydrogen production, and increasing the quantity of ethanol mixed into petrol.
These steps are connected with India’s aim to achieve net zero or become carbon neutral by 2070. To achieve net zero, the country will look for new technological developments as well as international cooperation.
What is India planning to do?
India plans to increase the use of electric vehicles. It also plans to increase ethanol blending to 20% (from 10% currently) by 2025. The country will also encourage people to use public transport. India's forest and tree cover absorbed 15% of carbon dioxide emissions, and the country hopes to increase it by 2.5 to 3 billion tonnes by 2030.
This plan will also help with energy security, energy access, and job creation. Experts have praised the plan but suggested that more needs to be done.
What did we learn from this article?
We learned about India's plans to reduce emissions. The protection of our environment is important for our survival. To save the planet and fight climate change, countries must also work together and set aside their differences.
We should personally also try to protect the environment. What else can be done to save the environment and fight climate change? Let us know in the comment section.
