Where is India’s first underwater metro located?
Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi recently inaugurated India's first underwater metro, the Howrah Maidan to Esplanade metro, in Kolkata, West Bengal. This metro section, located under the Hoogly River, is said to be India's first underwater metro tunnel.
This section also has the deepest metro station in the country, Howrah Metro Station. The Howrah Maidan-Esplanade line is important for the city’s East-West Metro route, connecting Howrah Maidan with places like Sealdah and Salt Lake Sector V.
The PM also inaugurated other metro projects in the city.

PM Modi also opened the Taratala-Majherhat section of the Joka-Esplanade line. Also, the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay part of the New Garia airport line was inaugurated at the event held at Esplanade Metro Station.
When can the public travel on the underwater metro?

A Kolkata metro official said that people can ride the underwater metro later (date not yet announced).
The East-West Metro section from Esplanade to Sealdah is being built. The part from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah is open. Kolkata Metro plans to start the whole East-West route between Salt Lake Sector V and Howrah Maidan in June or July.
