<h5>Who has been elected as Pakistan’s new prime minister?</h5><p>Recently, Shehbaz Sharif became Pakistan's prime minister (PM) for a second time. He will be leading a coalition government. Sharif is the younger brother of three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who established the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party. Shehbaz Sharif is also a member of this party.</p><p>Pakistani legislators elected Sharif following a controversial election held in February 2024. On 3rd March 2024, Pakistan’s National Assembly met to elect a prime minister. Sharif received 201 votes out of 336 and defeated Omar Ayub Khan, who received 92 votes. The winner had to get at least 169 votes to win.</p><p>After this win, Shehbaz's PML-N party will form a coalition government with the Pakistan People's Party (PPP). The election was criticised for alleged widespread rigging and delays in results.</p><p>After the election results were announced, members of the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) party began nationwide protests against alleged rigging. However, PML-N and PPP have joined together to form the government. The new government is also expected to face various challenges.</p><h5>What challenges might the newly elected government face?</h5><p>Pakistan's new government, led by Shehbaz Sharif, might face several issues, including rising inflation, unemployment, etc. The country’s citizens are also facing difficulties due to the increasing price rises of essential items like basic food products, electricity bills, etc.</p><p>All these are damaging the country’s development and prosperity.
