Who has been elected as Pakistan’s new prime minister?

Shehbaz Sharif recently became Pakistan's prime minister (PM). He belongs to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party and will lead a coalition government.

Pakistani lawmakers chose Sharif after a controversial election in February 2024. On 3rd March 2024, they met to elect a PM. After winning, Shehbaz's PML-N party will work with the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) to form the government.

What was the controversy surrounding the Pakistan election?

Elections happened in Pakistan on February 8th, 2024. People were upset because they thought there was cheating in the election, and the results took too long to come out.

After the results came out, members of the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) party protested because they believed the election was unfair. You can read more about it here.

Even though the PTI did well in the election, the PML-N and PPP joined together to form a new government. This new government will have to deal with a lot of problems.

What problems might the newly elected government face?

Pakistan's new PM, Shehbaz Sharif, might have to solve many problems, like prices going up and not enough jobs. People in the country are struggling because things they need, like food and electricity, are getting more expensive. The new PM needs to work on these issues to make sure people in Pakistan can be happy.
