What is the Asian Champions Trophy?
The Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) is a men's hockey competition in Asia. It started in 2011 and is organised by the Asian Hockey Federation.
Fans really enjoy watching this tournament as the matches are exciting to watch. Recently, the ACT 2023 tournament ended. It was held from 3rd August 2023 to 12th August 2023 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This is the seventh edition of the tournament.
Six teams (India, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Pakistan, and China) participated in this year’s tournament, with India reaching the finals and becoming the winner (yay!).
Whom did India defeat in the final match?
The Indian men's hockey team defeated Malaysia 4-3 in the final of the ACT 2023. They won after fighting back from two goals down. This shows how much our players wanted to win. With this win, India becomes the most successful team in this tournament.
Pakistan has won this tournament thrice, while India has won it four times.
How was India’s performance in this tournament?
At the start of the tournament, all six teams were placed in a group and played against each other. India topped the league table after winning four matches and drawing one. Three other teams, Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan, also reached the semi-finals.
India defeated Japan in the semi-finals to reach the finals of the tournament. India's Harmanpreet Singh scored nine goals and became the tournament’s top scorer. Mandeep Singh also won the Hero of the Tournament title for playing really well.
Team India scored twenty-nine goals, the most by a team in this year’s tournament. The Indian team performed really well to lift the ACT 2023 trophy.
