What are the Commonwealth Games?
The Commonwealth Games (CWG) began in 1930. They are held every four years. This year they were held from 28th July 2022 to 8th August 2022 in Birmingham, England. CWG is an event where a variety of sports are played. This year, athletes and para-athletes from 72 countries participated in 20 sporting events.
Which countries performed the best in the CWG 2022?
Australia, England, Canada, India (yay!), and New Zealand were the top five countries this year. Does this mean that athletes from other countries performed badly? Absolutely not! Participating in CWG requires a lot of skill and hard work. These athletes are among the best in the world.
How was India’s performance in CWG 2022?

India did very well! 200 Indian athletes took part in 16 games and won 61 medals in total. Boxing, wrestling, badminton, table tennis, and weightlifting are some of the sports in which we won gold medals. This year, shooting wasn’t included or else we could have won a few more medals. Olympic hero, Neeraj Chopra, also could not participate.
What can we learn from India’s performance at the CWG 2022?
Our athletes gave their all. Some won medals while others didn’t. But representing the country at CWG is a reward in itself. Many of our athletes come from a humble background and their preparation, training, and sacrifices are very inspiring to all of us. We can learn a lot from them.
What can you do to express your support for Indian athletes?

You can support them by watching them perform and discussing their performances with your friends and family. The next CWG will be held in Victoria, Australia in 2026. We hope this article inspires you to work hard. Maybe someday even you can represent the country! Until then, let’s be super proud of all athletes that participated this year.
