<h5>What are the Commonwealth Games?</h5>  <p>The Commonwealth Games (CWG) is an international sporting event that began in 1930. Since then it has been held every four years. From 1930 to 1950, CWG was known as the British Empire Games but was later renamed. This is because athletes from all Commonwealth Nations (countries formerly ruled by the British) began participating in them.
This year’s CWG was held in Birmingham, England from 28th July 2022 to 8th August 2022. CWG is a well-known multi-sport event in the world and also includes para-athletes. In CWG 2022, 72 countries participated in 20 sporting events.
</p> <h5>Which countries performed the best in the CWG 2022?</h5>  <p>The athletes of the participating countries tried their best to win medals. Even then, Australia, England, Canada, India (yay!), and New Zealand were the top five countries in the CWG this year.
Does this mean other countries played badly? Absolutely not! It takes a lot of skill, talent, hard work, and determination to even represent your country in this prestigious competition. Athletes who participate in the CWG are one of the best in their sport across the world!</p> <h5>How was India’s performance in CWG 2022?</h5> <figure>

      </figure> <p>India performed extremely well! Around 200 Indian athletes took part in 16 different games. India won 61 medals and came in the fourth position in the medals tally. Cumulatively, we won 22 gold medals, 16 silver medals, and 23 bronze medals! India won gold in many sports including weightlifting, table tennis, badminton, boxing, and wrestling.
Shooting was not a part of this year's CWG events otherwise India could have won a few more medals since we have exceptional shooters. Even Neeraj Chopra, our Olympic gold medal winner, couldn’t participate in the javelin throw event due to an injury. </p> <h5>What can we learn from India’s performance at the CWG 2022?</h5>  <p>All athletes performed really well. Some of them won medals while others didn’t. But it's okay! Representing the nation at an international level tournament is a prize itself. 
A lot of our athletes come from a humble background and how they prepared and trained themselves is an inspiration to all of us. These athletes have shown us that with hard work and determination nothing can stop us from achieving our goals.

      </figure> <p>You can express support by watching them when they represent our country. You can also discuss their performances with your friends and family. The next CWG will be held in Victoria, Australia in 2026.
