<h5>Who is a Vice President?</h5>  <p>India is a big country with a massive and diverse population. It takes a large team to run it smoothly. We elect a part of this team through elections and expect them to lead us to development and prosperity. But sometimes, our leaders also need someone to help them. </p>
<p>The President, of course, is the most important person in our country. But what happens if the President is unavailable? In this case, the job of the President is done by the Vice-President (VP).
The VP is the second most important person in our country after the president. However, the job of the VP is not limited to working only when the President is absent. The position of the VP is also very important because the VP has to perform many crucial functions.</p> <h5>What are the roles and responsibilities of the VP?</h5>  <p>The VP is the deputy of the President and performs the President’s role when the President is absent. The VP is also a Member of the Parliament (MP) and is the Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha.</p>
<p>The VP also holds the position of Chancellor for many universities of the Indian government. Along with these roles and responsibilities, the VP is the representative of India when dealing with other countries. 
The process of electing the VP is different from every other official position.</p> <h5>How is the VP elected?</h5> <figure>

      </figure> <p>The VP is not elected directly by the people of India. The VP is chosen through an election process where only MPs are allowed to vote. This is different from the election process of the President, where both the MPs and the Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) can vote.
The VP is elected for a term of five years. Venkaiah Naidu, the current VP, is completing his term on 11th August 2022. On 6th August 2022, Jagdeep Dhankar was chosen as the next VP. Let’s find out more about him.</p> <h5>Who is Jagdeep Dhankar?</h5> <figure>

      </figure> <p>Jagdeep Dhankar was born in Rajasthan in 1951 and is set to become the 14th VP of India. He will be the second VP from Rajasthan after Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, who was the VP between 2002 and 2007.
In the VP elections, he defeated his opponent Margaret Alva by 346 votes, which is the highest winning margin in VP elections since 1997.
Before politics, he worked as a lawyer and was the senior-most lawyer in Rajasthan. After entering politics, he was elected as an MP from Rajasthan and an MLA in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.
Until very recently, he served as the Governor of Bengal before resigning in July 2022 to contest as a candidate to become the VP.</p> <h5>What can be expected from Jagdeep Dhankar as our VP?</h5>  <p>The VP of India is expected to be fair and impartial while performing their duty. The same will be expected from Jagdeep Dhankar.
