In 2011, she was arrested for supporting imprisoned activists and their families. Mohammadi has also spoken against the death penalty, violence, and torture against Iranian prisoners, particularly women.</p><p>Even during the protests last year, Mohammadi, from inside the prison, expressed support and helped the protesters. She didn't back down even after the authorities placed stricter limits on her, and she helped keep the protests going.</p><h5>Why did protests begin in Iran in 2022?</h5><p>In 2022, Mahsa Amini died while in the custody of Iran’s morality police. Following her death, thousands of Iranians began protesting. These protests are now about asking for a change in Iran’s government.</p><p>Amini was arrested on 13th September 2022 by Iran's morality police because of how she wore her headscarf. Her family says the police mistreated her, and she died in custody three days later. When people found out about her death, protests started all over Iran.
