What? Jet fuel from poop!

Planes need jet fuel to fly. This fuel is made from crude oil (a type of fossil fuel).

We know that using fossil fuels is bad for the environment as they contribute towards climate change. So, scientists are trying to make sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

SAFs are biofuels that are similar to jet fuel but environmentally less harmful.

Recently, a company named Firefly Green Fuels (FGF) has created a type of SAF or jet fuel from human poop ????. We are not joking!

Will this fuel work?

Tests show that FGF’s new fuel is very much like regular jet fuel. But this poop fuel has a lower carbon footprint, which benefits the environment.

Right now, this new fuel is being tested at a German facility. More tests will be required before using it to fly planes.

The airline industry produces lots of global carbon emissions, contributing to climate change.

So, researchers are trying to lessen the airline industry's environmental impact. Some are creating electric planes, while others are trying to make environment-friendly SAFs.

Currently, planes can run on half SAF and half regular jet fuel. But, it will be years before planes use only SAF. Also, making SAF is costly, and its availability is very low.

But, FGF’s new fuel is cheap and easy to make from human waste. This offers hope that it can be used to reduce the airline industry’s environmental impact.
