Who has been sworn in as the 50th Chief Justice of India?
On 9th November 2022, Justice Dhananjaya Yashwant Chandrachud (DY Chandrachud) was appointed as the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI). He succeeded Justice Uday Umesh Lalit (UU Lalit), the 49th CJI.

Justice DY Chandrachud was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 11th November 1959. He completed his education in economics and law in New Delhi. Then he went to Harvard Law School in the United States of America (USA) for higher studies. After finishing his studies, he was appointed as a judge of the Bombay High Court. Later, he became the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court and in 2016, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of India.

Before being appointed as the CJI, DY Chandrachud took part in many important decisions of the Supreme Court. Some of them involved the Ayodhya land dispute and the right to privacy. Many people think that his role as the CJI will be good for the country.
