<h5>What is the CUET UG exam?</h5><p>The Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET UG) exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC).</p><p>This exam is conducted at the national level across India to provide admission to various central institutions and other participating institutes at the UG level (medical, engineering, etc., have their own exams).</p><p>This exam is one of India's largest UG entrance exams, and many universities and colleges accept its score to admit students in various courses. The CUET UG was started in 2022 by the NTA. Certain changes are expected in this year’s exam pattern.</p><h5>What changes are being expected?</h5><figure class="image"><img src="https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/newsahoot.appspot.com/o/major-changes-expected-in-cuet-ug-exam%2FOMR%20Sheet.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=8fc202fa-1f0b-4cb7-9e12-bc7e3547d0b8"><figcaption>A student filling up an OMR sheet. Photo by India Today.</figcaption></figure><p>Since the exam began two years ago, it has been held online or in the Computer Based Test (CBT) format. Reports say it will now be held in a hybrid mode.</p><p>This will allow candidates, particularly those from rural areas, to take the exam closer to their homes. We must understand that not every test centre has facilities to hold exams online. So, many candidates have to travel a lot to reach their exam centres.</p><p>M Jagadesh Kumar, chairman of the UGC, said that for subjects with higher registration, the test would be taken using OMR sheets instead of CBT format for subjects with higher registration. Also, the number of subjects a candidate can choose will be reduced from ten to six. The candidates will be allowed to pick three domain subjects, two languages, and the general test.</p><p>This change aims to simplify the test procedure and eliminate technical difficulties in exam centre allocation. Efforts are also being taken to maintain a moderate difficulty level for the CUET UG 2024 to reduce stress among students.</p><h5>When will the exams be held this year?</h5><p>This year, the registration procedure for the CUET UG is set to begin around 19th February 2024. The entrance exam is expected to be held between 15 May 2024 and 31 May 2024. On each exam day, three shifts will be held.</p>
