What is the situation in Pakistan?

Pakistan is currently facing a flood of an enormous scale. This natural disaster has been caused by unending rains which have drowned homes and destroyed farmland.

The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has said that over 3,000 kilometres of roads, 130 bridges, and around 5 lac homes have been destroyed by flash floods. Sherry Rehman, Pakistan’s climate minister, has said that one-third of the nation is underwater.

The Pakistani government has asked the Navy and Army for help in rescue and relief efforts. Soldiers and rescue teams are giving food to people and helping them reach relief shelters.

Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, recently dropped supplies from a helicopter in areas that were difficult to reach due to flooding.

The NDMA has been sending tents, food, and drinking water across the country. The items are being distributed by volunteers. The United Nations (UN) has asked countries around the world to help people affected by the flood.

Pakistan has started receiving international aid. Planes from Turkey and the United Arab Emirates have brought tents, food, and other supplies. The UN has given $3 million to help the people of Pakistan. This money will be used in flood-affected areas for medicines, drinking water, etc.

China, the United States, and the United Kingdom have also contributed material to help Pakistan. The Indian government is also discussing how it can help Pakistan.

What is the reason for such a devastating flood in Pakistan?

The main reason behind these floods is climate change. A recent study found that the monsoon season in South Asian countries has become more intense due to global warming. There is some good news though! The monsoon season is almost over, and heavy rainfall is not expected in the next few days.

Let's all hope that Pakistani people don't suffer anymore and that the situation over there gets better. We wish Pakistan a speedy recovery.
