What’s a water ban?
Water is very important for humans to live. We cannot imagine a world without water. Thankfully, such a situation hasn’t come up yet. But water is very less in some areas of the world.
France is currently facing a drought. There wasn’t much rainfall in July. That’s what caused the drought. Due to this drought, the French government has limited the usage of water in 93 regions.
French people think that the prices of food may increase since crop production will be low due to the drought. Anything which is less in quantity becomes more expensive so the poor people cannot afford it.
What's the French government doing about it?
The French government has set up a team to help deliver water to those regions where water has finished. They have also laid down some rules. The government has asked people to not waste water washing cars or watering gardens. The water in the country will be mostly used for security, health and drinking purposes. Some climate activists are against these rules.
What are climate activists complaining about?
Important activities like watering crops and plants are not allowed by the French government. But some activities like watering golf courses have been allowed. Climate activists are against this rule. They are protesting by filling the holes on golf courses with cement. They believe that water should not be wasted on golf courses during a water shortage.
Golf course owners are saying that the grass on golf courses will dry out if they don’t water it.
What's the situation of water all over the world?
Many people around the world do not have access to freshwater resources. Climate change is increasing water scarcity and droughts in many areas of the world.
