<h5>What is the Women’s Premier League?</h5><p>Are you a big fan of the Indian Premier League (IPL)? Do you look forward to the start of it every year? But IPL is a men’s T-20 tournament. So, how can talented women cricketers take part in a similar tournament? For that, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) launched the Women’s Premier League (WPL).</p><p>The WPL’s first season was held in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Five teams took part in this tournament. The teams are:- Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz. In February 2022, BCCI announced plans to establish a women's version of the IPL.</p><p>The BCCI revealed in October 2022 that the tournament would be held in March 2023. The competition was held from 4th March to 26th March 2023. A lot of talented women cricketers took part in the WPL. In the end, Mumbai Indians came out as the winners.</p><h5>How did the Mumbai Indians perform in this tournament?</h5><p>Mumbai Indians started the tournament well. They defeated Gujarat Giants in the first match. Out of the eight games they had to play in the first stage, they won six. The only two defeats were against the UP Warriorz and the Delhi Capitals. They came second on the league table and reached the eliminator stage of the tournament.</p><p>In this stage, they faced UP Warriorz. Mumbai Indians defeated UP Warriorz comfortably and reached the finals. Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by seven wickets in this stage to lift the trophy.</p><p>The Mumbai Indians players performed really well to win the inaugural season of the WPL. They played as a team, which is why they won the trophy. Three of the top five run scorers in the competition were from the Mumbai Indians. Similarly, four of the top five wicket-takers were from the Mumbai Indians. A total of twenty matches were played in the league stage. Each team played the other teams twice. After the league matches were over, the first-ranking team (Delhi Capitals) directly reached the finals.</p><p>The second and third-positioned teams (Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz) on the league table had to play against each other in the eliminators. The winning team reached the finals.</p><h5>What did we learn from this article?</h5><p>We learned that there are a lot of talented women cricketers. All they needed was a stage to show their talent. The WPL acted as a platform to give more chances to women in sports. The WPL featured some of the world's top female cricketers. They can be looked up to as role models by many young children across India.</p>
