What has Nestlé done?

Nestlé, a Swiss company, sells baby food worldwide, including in low- and middle-income nations. They say their products are healthy for babies.

A recent study revealed that Nestlé’s items sold in these countries have added sugar, while those sold in Europe are sugar-free.

Why is added sugar a big deal?

The World Health Organization (WHO) says not to put added sugars in foods for kids under two years of age.

The WHO says these foods can make children want more sweet foods, increasing the risk of obesity and dental problems.

Oh. What about India?

The report says that Nestlé has added sugar in its baby food, Cerelac, which is meant for six-month-old babies.

Reports like these show us when companies are trying to mislead people. Such reports help us and the government know about the products we eat and drink.

The Indian government is checking the report, and Nestlé has promised to remove added sugar from its products in the future.
